Day 10, June 24, 2015, Boise, ID to Mountain Home, ID, 53 miles and 1400 feet of climbing.  Today was a “quasi-off-day” as it was a very easy ride and nothing very memorable about the terrain.  Leaving Boise we accessed the bike path in the greenway which was the highlight of the day.  I was very impressed with the park and it is so easy to ride through. After about 15 miles we got onto I-84 and road the interstate for 10 miles.  The speed limit out here is 80 mph for cars and 70 mph for trucks.  There was lots of traffic, particularly trucks.  Fortunately there was a wide, smooth and relatively clean shoulder.  From I-84 we got on Highway 30/Oregon Trail for the remainder of the ride.  We had a very brisk tail wind which always makes for a good ride.  When we left it was 65 degrees and upon arrival (at noon) it was 90 degrees.  Tonight we are staying in another Best Western located out by the highway.  As we drove through Mountain Home it did not appear to be too prosperous.  We are out in the middle of very dry, arid, scrub land with mountains way off on the horizon.

  2. Glad you enjoyed your "quasi off day". No off days here being a single parent. After a two hour work-out at the Y (Lift, run, swim), I headed to Flint to spend time with the MIL. She is the best. I do enjoy our time together.
Then it was home to supervise Jack and his lawn mowing. The neighbor got a "new" used mower for us to share and Jack blew it out half way through the job. Thanks to Anderson's for the use of their mower to finish the job. We have been blessed with great neighbors. Also doing laundry & making granola to send to you on Friday so you can start every day like you do at home with granola & expresso)
I get to end my day with Jack taking me out to eat on his first paycheck from Jack's Fruit Market. (I get to choose the restaurant, my only restriction is that I can not choose Real Seafood which he fears is too expensive for his wallet). It should be a good time. I think I will order a drink (or two)

  3. Wednesday was bike day at Garrett and Ezra's day camp program. I'm not sure how many times they announced "My grampa is riding his bike across America", I will check.
