Day 17, July 1, 2015, DuBois, WY to Riverton, WY, 79 miles and 1250 feet of climbing.  The first of July.  Where did June go?  Pedaled on out of DuBois at 6:30 a.m. with the sun peaking over the red rock mountains that surrounds it.  It was a cool 58 degrees, clear skies and a slight but favorable tail wind.  In other words, it was a perfect start to the day.  Though we were to climb a modest 1250 the general trajectory was downward.  DuBois is at 6917 feet above sea level and our destination is a 5500 feet.  The first part of the ride was through red sand stone mountains, on winding roads that frequently intersected with rushing mountain rivers.  It was really quite stunning.  As the morning sun rose higher in the sky we entered into cattle range lands that were hilly and quite rocky.  On the far off horizon we could see mountain ranges and occasional snow capped peaks.  As we entered Riverton the sun was beating down and the temperature was nearing 90 degrees.  By 1:00 p.m. I was at the hotel and happy to call it a day.  Tomorrow we head out early for a 119 mile ride to Casper, WY.  The ride leader told me that the most difficult part of the ride is over in that there is no more “major” climbing to do.  Regardless, I know that after tomorrow I will be happy to have our 2nd off day.  My legs are tired and my behind is getting numb.  But….I am feeling great and consider myself to be oh so fortunate to be here!!!

"Hey Guardian Angel, glad to see you are here making sure I get back to Aunt Leisa.  You know that she is missing me dearly and having difficulty coping without me.  She was very relieved to know that you are looking out for me!"  "I know Uncle Jay.  Just keep pedaling.  Giggle, Giggle, Giggle"

Leaving DuBois

3 of my compatriots: Els, Neil and Bob.  Els is from Holland and this is her first trip to America.  Her English is coming along as she is constantly practicing it!!!

The red rock was beautiful.

Rocket and Judy.  Judy is the ride leader and is doing a great job.  Rocket is a staff member.  I have not figured out why they call him Rocket.  It's not because he is fast on the bike!

My first Antelope spotting.

One of the many mountain rivers we crossed.  I think this one is the Wind River.

  1. I am glad you were able to load all of your pictures from yesterday and today. It is amazing how beautiful and diverse this country of ours is. Just like the people who live in it! I particularly like the entrance to Jackson Hole. Do you think you could make one for our garden when you get home. Ours is getting a little shabby (now shabby chic).
